Honduras: The Tropical Getaway Getaway

Day 1: Upon arrival to Tegucialpa, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.
– Overnight in Tegucialpa

Day 2: City Tour & Transfer to Comayagua (B,L)
Morning city tour of Tegucigalpa where you will visit the old center of town, park La Leona from where you will have a wonderful panoramic view, Catedral de San Miguel Arcangel, the Los Dolores Church and the Museum Villa Roy. After the tour guests will be transferred to the colonial city of Comayagua.
– Overnight in Comoyagua

Day 3: Tour of Comayagua (B,L)
After breakfast, you will be met by their guide for a tour of Comayagua. Comayagua is a city with many colonial monuments. On the tour, you will visit the Cathedral, Las Mercedes church, and the Museum of Comayagua. Afternoon free to relax at the hotel or to explore more of Comayagua.

Day 4: Lake Yojoa & San Pedro Sula (B,L)
After breakfast you will be transferred to Lake Yojoa. The beautiful and large lake is one of the best places in Honduras for bird watching. After lunch you will transfer to the Pulhalanzak waterfall, a magnificent 433 m waterfall before you continue on to San Pedro Sula. – Overnight in San Pedro Sula

Day 5: Transfer to Copan, Medicinal Plants Tour (B)
After breakfast you will be transferred to Copan. In the afternoon you will be met by your guide the renowned archaeologist David Sedat. You will transfer to David’s private land where he will guide you through his many medicinal plants and alternative crop experimentation areas. Learn about the fascinating properties of these plants and David’s plans to help the community & the Copan Valley environment with alternative crops. Enjoy a refreshing herb tea and snack before returning to Copan. – Overnight in Copan

Day 6: Copan Site & Bird Park (B,L)
You are transferred to the Archaeology site at Copan. Enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful site which is famous for its intricately carved stelea & hieroglyphic stairway as well as its comprehensive museum. When ready, return to Copan and to the Bird Park for lunch. After lunch you can enjoy a walk in the lush, shady river valley of the Copan Bird Park. Here you get a local guide to accompany you as you view and interact with a number of beautiful tropical birds that have been rescued from locales all over Honduras.

Day 7: Finca El Cisne (B,L)
You will be met at your hotel reception at 9am by your guide Carlos to begin your full day excursion out to “Finca El Cisne”. Carlos’s family owns the farm and he will take you on a tranquil horseback ride through the farmlands and beautiful scenery of the Copan Valley followed by a hearty farmhouse lunch cooked by Carlos’s mother where you can taste the coffee grown here. In the afternoon, explore the coffee and cardamom plantations and learn about cattle ranching. This wonderful tour finishes with a dip in the hot springs on the way back to your hotel. – Overnight in Copan

Day 8: Transfer to Tela, Punta Izopo (B,L)
This morning you will be transferred to Tela and will visit the National Park Punta Izopo. The Rios Platano and Xicaque spread out a network of canals passing through mangrove forests. These forests are home for abundant wildlife including monkeys, crocodiles, turtles and many species of birds. You will board a kayak to be able to glide silently through the mangrove canals. – Overnight in Tela

Day 9: Botanical gardens & Beach (B,L)
Today you will visit a Botanical garden just outside Tela. The garden features fruit trees from every continent, cacao, fine timer plantings, nuts and palms and a long tunnel formed by an arch of bamboo. After a visit of the garden you will be transferred to the beaches of Tela wherebyou will have time to relax and have lunch. In the afternoon you will be transferred to your hotel/lodge in the La Ceiba / Pico Bonito area. – Overnight in Pico Bonito

Day 10: Pico Bonito (B,L)
You will be met at their hotel at around 8:00am & travel by 4×4 to the tropical forest of Pico Bonito. Here will follow several trails trek deep into the lush vegetation – en route discovering butterflies, birds and many other species of wildlife. Following the Rio Zacate trail, we’ll have a beautiful view of the Caribbean Coast, reaching the magnificent Zacate Waterfall at approx. 1:30pm. Hiking along the magnificent ‘Cordillera Gracias a Dios’, which has its highest peak in Pico Bonito will leave you breathless at the natural and sweeping beauty of a park that has made Honduras a famous eco-tour destination.

Day 11: Cayos Cochinos (B)
Transfer from you hotel to the coast at La Ceiba where you launch off by ferry for a one hour trip to the virgin white beaches of Cayos Cochinos. The trip offers beautiful views as you look back at the mainland with the magnificent ‘Cordillera Gracias a Dios’ towering in the distance. Coral reefs and pristine sandy beaches make up this archipelago of 13 cays – a “must see” on the Honduran North Coast. Enjoy a tour of the islands, and time of snorkeling while taking in the incredible tranquility of this marine biological reserve. Don’t miss trying a typical Garifuna style dish at Chachahuate Cay: fresh fish, plantains and fried rice & beans prepared with coconut milk. (Not included) It is always possible to see dolphin. The coral reefs abound with every imaginable species of fish and coral. – Overnight in Pico Bonito

Day 12: Transfer out
This morning you will be transferred to La Ceiba. From La Ceiba you will fly to San Pedro Sula airport for your departure flight home.
